North Carolina National Art Honor Society This year I am the NC state co-chair for the National Art Honor Society. I organized a spring Raku workshop that included a slide lecture on the history of Seagrove Pottery and a glaze mixing demonstration by potter Bob Armfield. With Bob's assistance and donations from Carolina Bronze Foundry, I built a raku kiln. My students assisted in firing the kiln all day on Saturday with great results! We had students from Charlotte, Fayetteville and Winston-Salem also attending. That afternoon, those that weren't firing the kiln, visited the NC Pottery Center, Turn and Burn Pottery and Lucks Ware Pottery for tours and demonstrations. On Sunday, students visited the NC Zoo to sketch, take photographs and see the wonderful sculpture collection (and don't forget the animals!) Here are just a few of the photos from the weekend. |
